How Do I Quiet My Mind?
So many times, people ask themselves: How do I quiet my mind? This crazy mind of mine!
Something I didn’t know at the beginning was that “I” don’t quiet my mind. My mind learns to become naturally quiet. And it’s gets better, faster and easier until there is a stillness and presence almost all the time.
The way that happens at the beginning is practice. You have to sit down, or lie down as we teach with the Inner Energy meditation. And you have to start observing what’s happening in your mind.
There are so many different techniques here, whether it’s counting your breath, pranayama, or doing a body scan, feeling your body.
at the beginning, you need to implement some sort of routine, some sort of practice, where you’re doing it at least 4-5 times a week and over time you will notice that your mind just starts to become quiet. You didn’t “do” it.
And this adds up and adds up and adds up.
So, when you reach the point of having a quieter mind, from there it stays pretty quiet.
Even if something “catastrophic” happens and you have a lot of thoughts coming to you, quite quickly you can return to a meditative state.
Obviously, with your Inner Energy, when you are connected to your Inner Energy, it can just put you into a meditative state.
Put your mind into pure stillness, pure quietness, actually seeing other things around, seeing other energies in the room.
When you reach there, you don’t have to worry “How do I quiet my mind?” because your Inner Energy can do it for you when the time is right.
The mind is a linear machine. So, you have to start with practice. You have to get it used to the frequency of how it is to just observe.
And it just naturally comes after a while, when you have taught your mind how to be in the present moment.
It’s not about “stopping the thoughts.” At the beginning it’s just about awareness of the thoughts.
If emotions come up, if thoughts come up, just observe them. Let them float on by.
Or take your attention to your breath. Or observe whatever you are feeling.
For example, if you have this thought of “I’m not good enough.” Observe yourself feeling some type of way about the thought.
Many times, “observing the thought” can seem very difficult. So, just observe whatever you can observe at the beginning!
And if a thought comes in and you think to yourself, “Oh no, got to stop this thought” you’re adding more thoughts to it.
So, when a thought comes in, you just go “Hmmm. Interesting.” If that’s how you need to start.
If you feel called, if you already have a meditation practice, Vipassana can be a great way to get started.
We recommend our Inner Energy meditation which you can get if you want to email us.
There’s got to be a practice at the beginning. Eventually it dissolves into Beingness. Then into Surrender. That’s when you don’t have to worry about quieting your mind because it gets quieted for you.
Such a blessing!
